Uniqkey Release 3.2: Introducing Secrets Manager

We're introducing Uniqkey Secrets Manager, a new addition to the Uniqkey platform.

Secrets Manager provides a central place to store and manage credentials used by applications, servers and automated processes, including API keys, database passwords, tokens and certificates.

Instead of keeping these credentials in source code or local configuration files, administrators can manage them centrally in Uniqkey and control which applications have access.

What's new

  • Centralised secrets storage
Store application credentials in one place, organised by paths.
  • Client-side encryption
Secret values are encrypted and decrypted locally.
  • Controlled machine access
Limit API keys to specific paths and read or write permissions.
  • Audit and recovery
Review activity, restore versions and recover recently deleted secrets.

Store and manage application secrets centrally

Secrets Manager lets administrators store credentials under structured paths, such as /development, /staging and /production.

Each application, server or automated process can receive its own API key, with access limited to the secrets and actions it needs.

API keys can be activated, deactivated or deleted centrally.

Retrieve secrets with the Uniqkey CLI and API

Applications can retrieve secrets when needed using the Uniqkey API or Command Line Interface (CLI), available for Windows, macOS and Linux.

Uniqkey checks the API key and its permissions before returning encrypted data. The secret is decrypted locally. .NET and Kubernetes integrations are also supported.

Track changes and recover previous versions

Review secret versions, roll back changes and recover recently deleted secrets.

Audit logs show secret reads and changes, including which API key was used. Secret values, descriptions and tags are encrypted on the client side, so Uniqkey's servers do not have access to plaintext secret values.

What this means to you
  • Centralised control: Manage application secrets and API keys through Uniqkey.
  • Restricted access: Separate environments with path-based permissions.
  • Visibility: Review secret reads and changes.
  • Recovery: Restore previous versions or recently deleted secrets.
